II. Employment

Respondents were asked a series of questions regarding their employment status and their satisfaction with current employment.

Employment Status

Respondents were asked to answer “yes” or “no” to the questions “are you currently employed?” and “are you currently self-employed?” Over half of the respondents indicated they were employed; only 9% reported being self-employed. It is important to note that Alaska’s Medicaid Buy-In Program allows spouses of people with disabilities to work and not affect the person with a disability’s eligibility for the program, even if they are not working. The Tables below display specific responses.

A correlation analysis was conducted to determine if there was a relationship between employment status and age or educational level. A Spearman Rho revealed a weak correlation that is significant for age (R= .289; p = .044). Younger respondents were more likely to be employed. No relationship was found between level of education and employment status.
