Importance of Personal Care Assistance Services at work
Table 16 indicates that only 2.5% or five of the respondents stated that the continued use of personal care assistance services at work were vital to keeping their jobs. However, these five represent 38% of the 13 who reported currently being employed. What is interesting to note in Table 16 is the absence of other responses from those who reported being currently employed. It would seem that this result reinforces an emerging pattern of supports and services being viewed by respondents as either extremely important or not important at all.

A strong temptation exists to make inferences based on relatively scant results. It is important to note at this point that the 36% return rate for the survey, while good, still omits 64% of the surveyed sample. The relationship between personal care assistance services and work becomes less clear when respondents were asked “If you currently do not have a job, would being able to have Personal Care Assistance Services at work influence your decision to go to work?” Table 17 displays a nearly even split between the numbers of respondents indicating that personal care assistance services were necessary for work and those who indicated they would not need this service to work.

The responses displayed in Table 18 reflect where Personal Care Assistance Services are used. More than one response could be chosen. The overwhelming majority of Personal Assistant Services occur in the home while very few happen at work. It would appear the potential for Personal Assistant Services to be used at work is much higher than what is actually happening.
