Funding Your Business

Some common funding sources for new business are:

  • Personal Savings
  • PFD Income
  • Loans From Family and Friends
  • Public Programs

There are other traditional sources for funding your business. Many banks are now offering services and loans tailored to micro business. And some business owners may qualify for government grants. Often these sources will require that the business owner have a viable business idea. You will need a more formal Business Plan, although the length and detail will vary depending on the funding source, the size of your business, and the amount of money you are requesting.

If you receive Social Security benefits, you may want to consider some of the work incentives available to you as a way to help fund your business. For more information, check out the public benefits section of this guide.
