Licenses and Permits

All persons (sole proprietors, partnerships, and corporations) who operate a business in Alaska must hold a state business license for that activity. In addition to business licenses, professional or occupational state licenses are required for many activities, and the professional or occupational licenses must be obtained before a state business license will be issued.

A business license is valid for two years, which consists of the current year in which the license is granted plus all of the next calendar year. Business licenses expire on December 31st of the calendar year. The cost of the license is $200.00 for the two year licensing period.

In addition to the state licenses, Municipality of Anchorage licenses and/or permits are required for certain activities.
